Liberal Jewish vegetarian who couldn't live without her Buddhist meditation. Open to lots of paths, and the wisdom to be learned from each. Hopeless optimist who believes that someday we will all stop fighting and accept each other regardless of our paths. Ordained nondemoninational minister since mid-2003, which allows me the pleasure of performing marriages and affirmations for a diverse group of people.
And to many people's surprise with that mix, morally most like a Mormon (don't drink, don't smoke, don't even drink coffee...oh and very against abortion on demand)

Nope, Pineappple! Neither! But I brew a great pot of herbal tea, should you ever be in the neighborhood!
Edited for clarity in who said what.

I am a "reborn" female who converted to Judiasm from Catholicism.
I am also a religious scholar (Ph.D.) who is published in books, journals, present at conferences, evaluated by my peers, credentialed by multiple Religious Scholarship organizations including the American Association of Religion. I am also a professor at a well known Jesuit and Mercy University. I have been in the field for 25 years.
I am currently engaged to a Chaldeon male who is Catholic.
I am very conservative politically. I keep strict Kosher as I believe the new covanant does not null and void the first covenant.

Okay, I am very confused! You said your fiance was Muslim, now you say he is Catholic. You said you converted TO Judasim, and then say that you still beleive in a so-called new covenant, which we all know does NOT exist at all for Jews! (As a religious scholar you certainly would know that!) What is the real story here??????????????????

Also you said your fiance was Jordanian, and now you say he is "Chaldeon", (I assume you meant "Chaldean"), which would place him in Iraq or Syria or possibly Turkey, and never a Muslim. What is the real story, ConvertedJew?

| Well you know there is a Chaldean diaspora, but you would be correct that 99.9% of Chaldeans are Christians; they are among the oldest continuous Christians on Earth! No only that, but the Chaldeans claim, and it seems to be correct, that they are the descendants of the Babylonians.

My apologies, Nichola, my fiancee, is of mixed lineage, and I should have clarified before. His mother is muslim and Jordianian. His father is from Iraq (the Babalonian area) and Catholic. And as of wednesday, for reasons he has not discussed with me has now begun conversion classes from Islam to Catholicism. I was meaning to make a thread about it last night but kinda passed out on the couch, as its been a rough couple days. But he is still Muslim, just working on becoming christian, and more specifically catholic.
Now, as for the covenant deal, I of course know that it does not exist for many jews, but my Jewish experience is one of reform where as the lump of jews you speak of are more the conservative and orthodox jews, (you must note that they are all very different in beliefs and customs). But one of my premises on becoming Jewish, was because so many Christians believe the new covanant is all that matters and they forget the first covenant, which does not fulfill the prophecies and detracts much from the Christian world. Christianity was never meant to become its own separate religion without respect for the Covenant of Abraham, but as a mere step for all Jews to take and improve upon the original, almost like re-uping the covenant contract. Does this help you to understand a little better?

Sorry, CJ, I am a lifelong Reform Jew (excepting about 6 years in a Reconstructionist congregation), and there is NO new covenant, no Jesus, nothing! Our covenant is only with G-d, not with any human. Clearly you did not actually become a Jew, but merely borrowed the Jewish practices. I have no problem with people borrowing...I learn from a borrow practices from many faiths, but I do not call myself anything but a Jew. I am a Jew who practices Buddhist meditation, but not a Buddhist. I am a Jew who elects to live a moral life more similar to that of my Mormon friends, but I am not a Mormon.
You are clearly a Christian who has borrowed Jewish practices such as Kashrut. Good for you! Enjoy! Learn from them, use them to help your spiritual life. But please, stop calling yourself a Jew!

Oh, and if your finace has accepted Jesus as a divine being, he is no longer Muslim. I have my very Muslim finace's word on that! You are both Christians, which is fine. Just admit it! Be proud of who you are! Just don;t try to "borrow" other labels!
