I have found that even in unhealthy cultures, there are still some kind people.
Many Italians who visit or reside in Thailand are usually slippery - sometimes they even try to rob gold shops and cheat Chinese, stupid things like that. However I have had true exception with an Italian owned restaurant here in Bangkok.
Thais generally see Italian food as not very good at all and are surprised when so many westerners insist on treating them to an Italian meal. There is a famous Italian owned restaurant in Bangkok called Pinnochios that serves only disgusting Italiand food, such as bland green noodles that turn your shi* rock hard. Normally my wife will go outside in the street and order us roast pork and Pappaya from the street vendor when we are stuck here on gatherings. How could this doughy cheesy cuisine could be considered world famous when street food outside actually has better taste and costs so much less?
So I decided to order the ham pizza after asking the waitress what was the most delicious thing they had. 45 minutes later, the Italian owner comes to the table and presents it personally to me, in a nice way. The taste was perfect. The crust was crisp and dry but still bready, scorched without a burn. The cheese was perfectly blended against subtly sweet but sugarless basil tomato, and the ham was strong without being too salty.
So for Italians it is that if you don't ask them what is good, but presume to know what is good about their culture yourself, they will give you overpriced shi*. Book a package tour if you don't want bad people bothering you for money.

I want to add something to what this ignorant person, called mrmerman for the "new fascist world" called United States, wrote.
Probably you were not welcome to my beautiful and democratic country, because you had such an arrogant attitude feeling so superior to my people. Italians are probably one of the most polite persons, but since we have a history and can recognize idiots such as you, maybe you had what you deserved. I can tell you for sure that you can totally stay in your country and not come back, because you're not welcome at all! I hope you will get the same treatment wherever you will go with your cocky attitude.
I traveled sooo much around the world, and I've never felt unwelcome wherever I've been...maybe because I'm not a dork as you are.

Reading all the comments Im really surprised !!
I was this year in Tuscany and all the people that I met were so nice and polite, it was almost abnormal !! Everybody was smiling greating me trying to conversate(and I dont speek Italian!).
I was going to Italy expecting loud and temperament people but the reality was totaly different. Anyway, it was really a nice surprise 
btw. not much people on the beach, water clear and nice

I went through all the comments on this forum... I agree mostly that no country is perfect, however, I am also sure that some things are more evident in some countries than other... And when someone says "ITALY SUCKS" what I agree on is that "ITALY TENDS TO SUCK" more than other countries...
I am an Italian born abroad and now, I live and work in Italy since 11 years and have a lot of Italian friends who are really great persons, however, in Italy great persons never arrive to key positions, great persons are like cheaps in the midst of wolves...
Italy is racist, it is racist with Italians themselves, it has nothing good to offer even for its' own children... And I regret to see Italians here confirming that Italian are very polite and that Italy is the best in hospitality... Atl least let me say that MOST italians by far are NOT POLITE at all... and examples are too many to be able to write a whole book about that... Italians are close-minded, and hospitality is the last thing they are good at!!! Shal we talk about arrogance and work atmosphere, all arrogants! In Italy, lawyers are computer analysts, biologists are programmers, psychologists are executive managers and computer scientists are into sales!!!! guys, specially italian guys, wake up! Italy votes berlusconi and beleive me, they all view him as an idol!! History and art belongs to humanity ALL humanity, it's not exclusevely italian!! NO ROME WITHOUT GREECE!
Good Italians escape Italy, exactly what I will do, escape it without regrets. I wonder if Italians who wrote on this forum have ever been to spain for example, then please tell me about hospitality... Someone said that in Italy you get what you pay, like everywhere, talking about hotels... NO, in Italy you get much less than what you pay and more, they think they are making you a favour...
Shall we talk about universities in Italy, guys, in Italy medicine exams ARE ORAL EXAMS, math exams are ORAL EXAMS, and the fact a student gets a A or an F totally depends on the teacher's mood, there is no meter that measures one student's knowledge with other students of the same course, just mood! Do you know that in Italy it's easy to find an electronic engineer graduate teaching ECONOMETRICS in the university!!!! RECCOMENDATIONS, this is how all Italy works, so, come on dear Italians, let us face it, ITALY SUCKS...

| Thank you ELENA, that is EXACTLY WHY Italy sucks! No one wants to live in your stupid country, however, if you can, please do the world a favour and stay in Italy, and if you can, take back the stupid Italians that are around back to Italy!
