Hi everyone, my name is Katie i am from Scotland (Loch Lomond to be exact). I have been trying to trace my grandfathers Lithuanian roots and need some help. His name was Jonas Polokas, but for the past fifty years we have spelt it as Polockus. Anway my grandfather came to Scotland around 1910-1913 and worked in the Coal mines of Blantyre as most Lithuanian did when they came here around that time. I have been unable to obtain a birth certificate for my grandfather as i do not know where abouts in Lithuania he came from? no town or district. On his marriage certificate it only states his parents names: Juozas or Josas Polokas and Ona Polokas (m.s. Milunas or Miliunas) i still don't know if these are the correct spellings or just what the interpreter heard and wrote down. I have tried to purchase ships manifest, but am having problems with the website. If anyone out there knows the name or knows anyone who could help me i would be eternally grateful.

| Hi. It would never be Polockus, that would be a mixture of Polish and Greek. Polokas and Jonas are pure Lithuanian though.

Hi GD,
Thanks for the reply, I imagine you are right about my family name, it's just that on so many of my family birth certificates the name has been spelt in many different ways so I am unsure as to what the proper spelling would be.
I am constantly trying new spellings and searching, so who knows maybe one day i'll hit the jackpot.
Thanks again.
Katie
