Hi Kathy,
I would recommend a trip down to Cabo that clearly you'd be able to write-off. We just got back and I can tell you that I noticed several dealerships that are just now being built, or barely completed. They are all pretty new (Hummer, Ford, BMW). Things are still a little on the sparse side, but I think you will find good luck and cooperation on the part of the dealerships.
To import a car to sell (something I would highly recommend disclosing when being asked..) costs a set amount based on the value of the car. Too, you absolutely MUST use an import company when importing anything. This too, has its cost. Everyone has their hand in the pot in one way or another. I am not sure just how beneficial this would be for you b/c by the time all the fees are assessed, the selling price of the vehicle would have to be about what they are going for now down there. If this is a one-time car sale, then you wouldn't have to use an importer; but of course I know that you want to run your business above board and be a person of integrity if you are to succeed at all.
It is cheapest to fly to Cabo in the summer. You can rent a decent car for cheap at National and waive the insurance if you use a Gold/Platinum card. From there, you can make your business calls. Most of the dealerships are right on the corridor as you start to approach town.
Hope this helps,

SORRY!
The page accidentally posted so many times. I don't know what happened aside from taking forever to finish. I pressed 'Refresh' and it posted a bunch of times!

Gringa,
That is so kind of you to be so generous with information, thank you
I am wondering what the cost of living is like in Los Cabos. I am considering relocating there, but would like to know how much rent, food, phone and internet typically goes for.
thanks so much!

Hi Steph,
The cost of living is inching closer to that of the U.S... Sorry to break that to you.
To relocate there, plan on several expenses. When you cross the border in your car, be prepared to hand over a list of items that are in your car and be prepared for them to search extensively. They may or may not impose an import fee depending on if you have new items. Take the tags off all of your stuff!! But have that bloody list handy. The more prepared you look, the less the will mess with you. Travel with another person, not alone. You never know what can happen on the long drive down and at what time of day/night. You don't what to be stuck in the middle of BFE w/no cell service and a flat.
Cabo itself...Count on at least $900USD for rent and you will be happy. There are a lot of places to look, but personally, I would stick closer to town or on the corridor. Make sure you plan on at least $300/mo for electricity in the summer, closer to $400; especially this year...this will be one of the hottest summers since 1987. Just last week it was almost 100.
Phone and internet are such variables. Personally I would not opt for a land line as they impose as many restrictions as feasibly possible just short of gauging their own people...only so many local calls allowed monthly w/o a fee, etc. Besides, most people text like crazy now. Internet is an unkown to me still as I tend to go wi-fi...(I am cheap!). There are so many hidden fees down there in all kinds of things that I just use cafe's etc.
I am not kidding when I say to watch your expenses. Read all contracts. When it comes to renting, the rules are not quite as unforgiving and merciless as here in the states. You really can just bolt out of a contract down there if you are in a pinch/emergency to get back to the states, but it is not a recommendation, nor is it an option when considering integrity.
If you are serious and find yourself in need of more direction once you get down there, I can give you more specific information as your questions get more specific as well. It can be a difficult thing to move, but consider us friends that can provide valuable information for whatever circumstance you encounter.
Suerte,
Gringa

Thank you so much for your reply! That definately helps put things into perspective. I was also wondering how much I would anticipate in spending on food...kind of a strange question I'm sure, but are grocery stores resonable?
Thank you again for your help, I REALLY appreciate it!

They now have a Costco down there, so it is SOOOOOO MUCCHHH better than before!!!! Personally I do almost all of my shopping at Costco, so this is my number one recommendation. The other two are: Soryana and CCC. This will keep your food bill down to U.S. prices. Anywhere else and you WILL get taken!!
No problem for the aid. Anything we can do anytime..seriously.

| Hi. My friends just visited cabo and they say its awesome. We would like to find out info on moving there. Are there any apartments that aren't vacation rentals, ones that are affordable?

Please read over my previous posts about Cabo. I think you will find them very helpful!
Where are you moving from? I need to know so that I can make a price comparison. At the same time, I would google rentals in Cabo. At the same time, they are not going to be the same prices that you would see for rentals in Soryiano or Aramburo.
We have a 2 bedroom place on the Marina for $1k/mo. I had to look hard for it and sign a lease, but totally worth it.
Again, look over all of my posts on this forum and that will give you and your friends a very realistic picture.
