Hi there.
Well... probably not a lot of point in bombarding that e-mail address. Yahoo! e-mails are free, easy to sign-up for, and entirely disposable - they probably sent off a couple of hundred e-mails from that address, they would no doubt have got many e-mails back telling them to go "fornicate themselves", and ignored them already.
Well done for doing your homework, and realising this was a scam, before you sent them any money or sensitive information, though.
Best wishes,

Welcome to Perspectives.com! philpat6..
Many thousands of people who found this topic and many others found here on our International Spain.com forum have questioned or confirmed this mail your wife has also received as malicious identity fraud & indiscriminate financial theft by deception performed by what are commonly known as Spammers! no reply is the only reply to this decade old scam. The old & easily manipulated are at most risk.

| Yea my mother was a victim of the same ridiculous scam as everyone else. Seriously do they think everyone was born yesterday. Unfortunately some people do fall for it. She recieved a letter a few days ago saying she was a 3rd category prize winner and had won the lump sum of €618, 820 and that due to a mix up with names and numbers she is only being notified now. Now usually with letters like that we rip them up and throw them away but she thought what the hell nothing ventured nothing gained i'll send them a fax telling them I want it by cheque and see what happens and suprise suprise she gets a call last night saying she had won and that she'd be getting a call this morning telling her when the cheque would arrive. So of course we spent the night thinking, could this be true could we really be this lucky? there has to be a catch and of course that came this morning when she recieved a call saying that because it was such a large sum of money she would have to insure it and that would be €950 and that it would have to be paid by midday today. Yea don't think so! It's just a shame that these people are'nt caught. Does anybody know are they real companies that are just trying to rip people off or are they "companies" consisting of two people. It's maddening to think that they can get peoples hopes up like that. On saying that we did say that until that money was in her account we wouldn't believe it.

| It's a few people working as a team.. I'm glad you found Perspectives.com! please tell me what info your dear mother has given them if any.. If she has given her home address/email/tel/DOB/name of her bank? then quick action needs to be taken.

No thankfully she's not that stupid all she gave was her phone number. But when she actually got a call and they started going on about sending her forms for tax purposes she actually began to think and we all did god maybe this is real but we knew as soon as they started looking for money there was no way. There was no way she was going to give any kind of private information until she knew it was genuine. I believe in karma and they'll get theirs eventually

Please ask her.. what she sent via fax..
If the lady has given no more than her tel. then no problem. any information on her bank or date of birth & even email is slightly more reason to take action.
Bank: if she gave her bank name & account #: she should go to her bank, and change the account #. A.S.A.P. (It's not just a simple case of 900+eu.. its also identity theft that these dirty 'Kanker' spammers induce..)
contact the police if you want.. but please tell everyone you know.. this indiscriminate crime was attempted on your mother.. other people (potential victims) need to know..
Kind regards..

| Hi I just want to say a big thank you . I got the same letter only a few days ago, like wise i thought about it and really wanted to believe it was true but when they asked for money alarm bells rang. I got on the internet and discovered this site, that was the end of it as far as i was concerned. They had my address the only thing i gave them was my phone number. Again a very big thank you to all of you on this site who go a long way to help others.

my dad received one of these frankly ludicrous letters during the week, he was about to bin it but i decided to see what i could find out about these obvious conmen we live in ireland by the way, i imagine that they get peoples address from electoral registers which are usually available online, what concerns me is that while my father is not naive enough to give any of his details to anyone there are thousands of people out there who will blithely give their life story to these people in the hopes of winning some money. i plan on following this up and finding someone to report this to as only when enough people make a fuss about this will anything be done, i hope others will take the time to do the same as these people need to be stopped.
