Hi Guys,

Greetings from Scotland.

The old scams are the best...money is made round to go round.

My daughter just got the letter and thought she had "won a watch", however, quickly realised that  it was a scam.....although as a regular traveller to spain, thought I had bought her a ticket when last there...I guess you will never stop this rubbish!

I need to add my mum lives in Poland, the letter was in English, and when she got someone to translated she thought it might be serious...a letter like that was pretty unusual...I just want to say if you live away from your own counry, and your family or friends back home speak and understand no English, just tell them to ignore stuff like that...they might be no stupid but still fall for the scam letters...

Hello Ivanixonpl, Welcome to Spain.com & this International forum: Perspectives.com..

There are few places around our wwworld, that bother to reflect upon this horrendous abuse being circulated around The Net, and via snailmail. I'm pleased you found the info you needed to confirm your suspicions here.. to confirm this:

The telephone number given as contact is 'always' a Spanish mobile (these start with a 6 in the same way as UK mobiles start with a 07 & Holland 06). No official body-company-lotto Co. would give out a mobile number to call them back to check anything. Spanish landlines always start with a 9. Therefore, a contact number for Spain will begin with the international code (00) followed by the country code (34) and in the case of a mobile number 6xx xxx xxx or a land line 9xx xxx xxx .

This contact number is not to an office in Spain.. its a Pre-Pay mobile Telephone! only the fax is a landline.. and obviously not reg. in the spammers name.

Kind regards..

JP

I received my International Lotto Commission 'winning' letter yesterday. As a frequesnt traveller to Spain both for business and pleasure i did wonder of r aminute or two if it was genuine as I have bought Spanish lottery tickets in the past.

It is however poorly written and printed and there are a few other things that convinced me it was a scam:

1.  Whilst the fax No. is a Madrid No., the Telephone No quoted is a mobile No.

2. There is no Ministerio de Hacienda in Spain, it is the Ministerio de Economica y Hacienda!

3.  The postcode for the address on the main letter is for a residential area to the west of Madrid, but there is no Romano No 19 and the postcode for the 'Head Office' leads to an address in Getafe, another suburb of Madrid but suprise, surpise there is no C/ del Toro in Getafe.

Shame really as I could do with the €815,510 I have 'WON'.

For my part I shall pass this onto both the UK police and the Spanish Police because these sly bastards cannot be allowed to pray on inoccent people.

I trust this helps

Today I received a letter from the Intl. Lotto Commission, Calle Pivon Y sancheez no. 8, 2b,  28014 Madrid Spain. tel no. 0034658487160.

I have won 985,950.00 Euro.

Thanks for warning me in the previous forum topics.  I live in the Netherlands, and the letter was addressed to us in Almere, Belgium. So that already got my guard up, because Almere  really is situated in the Netherlands, but like everyone, you wish it was true, but it is too good to be true.  I looked on the internet and found this site. I'm thankful that you all warn us for this spammail from Spain.  If this site will allow it, I will attach a copy of the letter.

Merry Christmas from Ireland.

My husband recived a letter from Loteria Prmitiva today advising him that he had won €715410.00 on a lottery that he never entered.

The letter advises that in order for him to begin his lottery claim, he should contact somebody called Quan Bogoz, the foreign operations manager of BUMILLA GRUPO SEGUROS ESPANA.

beware !!

Your letter is familiar to people all around our globe.. thank you for posting a visual representation used by these 'Spamsters'..

Many people still fall for this decade old snailmail/email mass mail-out deception.. its become more serious recently due to the rise in identity theft associated with this financial theft. victims provide all manner of personal details thinking they need to do this in order to get their lottery cheque transfered!! its important to inform your police & perhaps your local radio station if your interested in letting your local community be aware of these ruthless & indiscriminate Spammers.. Information is the best weapon to fight this extreme form of International SPAM..

Kind regards..

I sent a mail to the Spanish ministary and they replied as follows:

Dear Sir/Madam:

On behalf of the Spanish Treasury Department (Ministerio de Economía y Hacienda de España), and with reference to the letter that you have received, I regret to inform you that you have probably suffered a fraud.

The civil servant name, the Department name and address and the letter and forms sent to you are false. These letter and forms do no belong to this Department and they have not been issued by ours.

Official forms and documents issued by the Spanish Central Government are always written in Spanish language and had to be signed by the civil servant full name and sealed with the Department official stamp.

The Spanish Government body in charge of taxes is the Spanish State Taxes Agency (Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria). Spanish civil servants are not authorized nor to seek or receive payment of taxes by themselves.

We enclose you more information about this fraud.

Loterías y Apuestas de Estado (LAE) would like to inform the general public that a number of groups of criminals of various nationalities are using the prestige and the commercial names of the Spanish Lottery by fraudulent means in several countries. They move easily around the whole world and use mobile telephones, PO boxes, provisional or false addresses (including real addresses of official Spanish organisations), as well as names that bring to mind prestigious institutions ("el Gordo", la Primitiva", "European Lottery Commission", etc.) They also forge the printed sheets and signatures of various banks or insurance firms.

In order to carry out the fraud, the procedure that is generally followed consists of informing the potential victim that they have been the lucky winner of a substantial prize (even if they have not participated in any draw), although they cannot collect this prize until they have paid an amount going towards the taxes, bank costs, delivery costs or insurance processing, etc. Usually, the fraudster warns their potential victim that the deadline to pay these charges is very soon and that their right to collect the prize is about to expire.

Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, that is, the Spanish Lottery, wants to inform very clearly the following:

1. To win a prize of the Spanish lottery is essential to have purchased previously lottery or bets of our range of products.
2. Spanish lottery prizes are always free of taxes and burdens.
3. When you are offered "prizes" that seem to be linked to the Spanish Lottery, DO NOT PAY ANY AMOUNT. We are, in all probability, before a criminal fact that must be reported to the authorities. The Spanish Police has already arrested and subjected to legal procedures some of the members of groups who were operating from Spain.
4. If you have any question, please contact:
sugerencias@loteriasyapuestas.es

Yours faithfully

hello,

recently a friend of mine received this letter
http://chelm.gda.pl/~sirigor/ftp/x/mix.jpg
Do you know how this thing works? I mean, it is a scam for sure, but let's say I didn't realised and give them a ring. Where is the hook? Will they ask for my further personal details, for ex bank account details? Proud Pete written that I will be asked to meet them personally and probably be robbed or abducted. Nothing more 'sofisticated' behind it?

Regards,
Wiktor (Poland)

Hello & Welcome wiktor,

1. you receive a Spamsters letter by snailmail or email.

2. you will be asked to prove you are the lotto winner. this implies you will give your full details: copy of passport: bank number: D.O.B/Name and house address.

3. you then are asked to send 1,300eur +- to cover bank transaction costs for the lotto cheque to move too your bank account.

4. you will then be asked for 6, 500eur to cover this Spamster's handling fee's.

5*. you then start to panic when nothing arrives in your account & contact your spammer.. they tell you to pay an extra fee to push the paperwork through because Spanish banking is slow..

6*. you do all this, then the penny starts too drop! you call again and they even try to get more cash from you..

7*. you begin to seriously start to doubt if you have really won this lottery & question why a National lottery company uses 'WESTERN UNION' & not bank 2 bank?

8*. you pester your bank manager about this very large amount of money that should of arrived in your account 'weeks' ago & your manager also casts perhaps doubt on the legitimacy of this lotto cheque. (he will probably of heard of this deception from other clients)

9. you start to look on the Internet*

10. You find very little info on The Web relating to this global lotto scam which has been around for over a decade. Perspectives.com & Spain.com has spent the last 5yrs of this decade highlighting this ruthless & indiscriminate organized International mass-mail-out deception. around 1 million total clicks to view the various topics associated with Spanish, Dutch & Global Spammers has accumulated over the years & many people have found the dreaded answer they were looking for here, many like yourself, only needed to confirm your suspicions..

Personal identity theft is the catch. Lotto Spamsters sell their victims identity for 85-100eur to Pro-fraudsters & this can lead to serious complications..

Kind regards.. and have a wonderful spam free Christmas..

Joe Public (JP)

Wow! Sounds they are really organized. Probably there were plenty of people caught on this schema. But one thing bothers me. A friend of mine didn't get this letter via email, but via post office! How could they find his address and name? One way they could do this is polish phone book which seems unlikely because it is rather unreachable outside Poland (or you have to know polish language to find it in internet), the other way is that they have already bought his data somewhere...I will warn him to watch out for any weird correspondence. Thanks a lot for explaining the mechanism!:)
