Specialists do cost a lot - I have to take one of my dogs to an opthamalic specialist - the initial visit was over $200, but fortunately the regular checks are much less, but his eye drops are $78 a bottle.  For some things I've taken my animals to Ohio State U. which has a Veterinary School - I think it's less expensive and as good (just further away) then the specialists.  For complicated things - it's worth it to get a specialist opinion though. I can't decide which I should take Jessie too.
It was just irritating because apparently their staff didn't take all of the right info down.  I really didn't like it there.  They informed me that since Oliver will be a huge cat, that I should have him de-clawed for my safety (he has never scratched anyone on purpose and frankly, none of their business if I want him clawed!).  Also,  when I got there they thought he was a 2 y/o black and white tabby...not even close, he's only 7 months old and he's not a normal cat.  They said that he hadn't had any x-rays adn basically that my vet just looked at him and sent me away.  I talked to my vet's office about it and apparently I am not the first one to have issues like that.  It's unprofessional to have an emergency case come in and you don't know the age or breed?  They barely knew what was going on with him, it was a 45 minute drive to get there and then I had to wait for an hour to see a vet.  I understand they are busy, but good grief!  We thought he would have to have emergency surgery!  They just really didn't have it together and the vet was really cold and a bit b*tchy.

This is good news.. please keep me posted on his eating.. and water consumption & keep an eye on his toilet work for good measure, for a few days..;)

He has his fountain because he can't seem to drink from a bowl...he tries to put all fours in it and tip over in it.  He also has his mega litterbox to himself (he's too big for the regular box...without a mess).  He's in a quiet space, so let's see if this does anything.  At least he got the cat treats down, maybe he will move on to something else soon.

This was him yesterday.  He discovered how to jump from the counter to the fridge and then on top of our cabinets :).  He's so much fun to be around and loooooves to play (and apparently eat string!).

He's been expensive anyway.  We've spent around $2500 in vet bills on him alone.  We are getting a replacement cat because of his heart problems.  So maybe we will get 1 normal cat...

Our other cat is very unhappy that Oliver is locked away.  He's walking around and calling for him.  They're big time buddies.

Okay, since yesterday I have gotten 4 freeze dried chicken cat treats into him and 1/3 of a can of A/D.  I am going to try an appetite stimulant on him.  I can feel his back bone and ribs.  He didn't use the litterbox all night, but he also didn't vomit.

Okay, since I wrote that he has been out playing with our other cat and going back to his room to eat, so by now he has almost eaten half of a can of A/D and had a potty break.  He's running around and jumping on things so he seems to feel better today.  Also, his labs came back from yesterday.  His CBC and chemistry panel both came back normal, so it seems that the string is gone and he should slowly get better now :D.

He normally eats a 13oz. can of wet cat food, freely eats kibble, and gets a lot of treats from training.  So, yeah, he's losing a lot of weight.  He was only 12lbs.  He is nowhere near his adult size yet, so he eats a lot...

Yes, they are expensive.  Our Oliver is a hoot and so is our Domestic, Adam West hehe.  We got our first cat from a lady handing out free kittens at Wal-mart...so we got him an expensive buddy that drives him nuts lol.  Oliver doesn't stop and Adam West is lazy, but they love to snuggle in the smallest kitty bed that they can find :).

lol he's only 7 months old, he won't be full grown until he's around 3.  He's only 12 lbs, but looks bigger.  We're expecting him to get about 20-25lbs.  He's already about 14" from the middle of his shoulderblades to the base of his tail.  He's my baby, he's terrified of men because of their deep voices...he's warming up to hubby though.  We are working with a behaviorist to work past his fear of men.

JP, I accidentally slammed my kitten's head/neck in the door.  He was getting ready to dash outside.  He seems ok, but I'm still worried.  Also I went to my friends house for a while and when I came back he had a blue spot on his head.  I'm not sure if he got into something (I haven't noticed anything) or if it's a bruise.  I've checked under the fur and it appears to be fine, but I'm just really concerned.  Also he has an appt next Thurs, do you think I should try to get him in earlier?

I took Liam to the vet.  He's still there.  The vet is going to call me hopefully by 6 to let me know what's going on.

How is he?  My husband was playing with Oliver once and the boy dove at the teaser toy and smacked into the wall at full speed face first.  His nose doubled in size and we felt terrible.  The emergency vet sent us home after looking at him without charging us...said even if his nose was broken there's nothing you can do about it.  We both felt so terrible about it...especially since we had to leave the next day to fly to TN for Christmas!

Hope all is well with his first accident at your house.  I'm neurotic about my boys, so I understand.
