Lithuania has ancient and dramatic history that was often determined by its geographical situation - on the crossroads between the East and the West. As a politically active state Lithuania appeared in the history of Europe in the 13th century.

An interesting side note to the history of Lithuania. The neighbor state of Belarus, which is still mired in the days of the iron curtain and soviet propaganda supports a version of Lithuanian history that is very contradictory towards to common consensus held by western historians and institutions. I'll try to provide a link to their "Version" of the creation and administration of the Lithuanian Grand Duchy.
It's amusing.
A little clever web searching on your own will probably yield quick results. It will take some time for me to dig up that old link.
