As many of you know I have been trying to get back child support out of my daughter's father for decades. Now it seems that his mom died in September, and left him with several million dollars and her home in Malibu Ca. I've been trying to find out what the name of the firm or person who is the executor to her estate so that the child support office can retrieve the money for me.
Any one know how to find this?

So, she's grown up?

The will should be on file at the probate office where it is to be executed.

So it should be on file in LA county? Or Malibu?
And Yes, Sup Cat, my daughter is now 35. Her father was ordered by the court to pay child support back in the seventies.

I have no way of knowing where the will is to be executed so I have no way of answering that. The probate office is usually in superior court, though. Something to keep in mind is that the representative of the estate (whether that be an attorney or appointed representative) often has a year to file with the office so just because they might not have a record of it now does not mean they won't have a record in the future.

So even though she died in Malibu CA, which is in LA county it won't necessarily be the place where the will and probate will be?

Did he reside in Malibu or just die there? If he resided in Malibu, the will should be at Los Angeles Superior Court.

If you are speacking of my daughter's father, he used to live in Escondido, but when his mom died she left him her home in Malibu. Now if it is she who died in Malibu then I would think that it would be in LA Superior Court.
And if that is the case then how do I get that information from LA County?

Sorry about that. For some reason I had it stuck in my mind that it was your ex that had died. You'll have to contact the Probate Office to find how to access the will. Different jurisdictions can have different requirements. Some will let you just walk in and request it while others require you to call ahead.

That's very warm and motherly of you, Forknight, going through all that legal stuff and research and everything so as to retrieve the money that you should have received as child support decades ago.
I hope your daughter is as gracious in her thanks to you, when you finally find it and hand all of it over to her. If she is as kind and thoughtful as you, she will give you a cut.
You are planning to give it to her, right?

No you're dead wrong. It is my money, I had to go with out to provide for her, I had to work over time and two jobs to compensate for his not paying his very fair share. I went with out to keep her in new shoes, clothes, food on the table and roof over her head. I shopped at goodwill for me to keep her in new clothes. I did with out. That money is mine. Besides she is mentioned in her grandmothers will and will be receiving over $25,000.00 from a woman who never gave her the time of day when she was alive. My daughter actually offered to give me some of her money when she gets it in January. I declined. I want my money. The money that I had to use for her when she was a child. The money that I needed for clothing, shoes, etc., the money that was awarded to me and ordered by the Superior Court of California in 1978 to me. That is my money.
And you are not only presumptuous but also judgemental.

I kinda remember Judge Judy yelling at someone for this.
