Considering that Denmark got rated as the happiest nation on Earth, I'm wondering what each one of you considers to be the greatest things in your life that contribute to your sense of Danish happiness and well-being... Any takers?Last edited on Fri Feb 6th, 2009 12:05 am by Pseudo-Soviet Dictator

Danes don't have that high standards, thats why we are so easy to please. Because of our welfare and union model we are granted a great deal of security in regards to education, job/unemployment situation, health care, daycare for children, retirement, homes and care for elders. Those things are pretty much covered, so that all we have to worrie about is getting the best out of what the system has to offer us spent time with the family, plan some god vacations and live happily ever after.
Yes the system has flawes, and is not all pink and fluffy... but still... we are pretty happy I guess...

By "don't have high expectations", I assume that you're referring to the humility and modesty which is typical of the Danes.
Have Danes become biggers spenders, or is Denmark still mostly a saver-nation?

We are not brought up to believe we can be the best, or that if we work hard we can become ANYTHING!
We are urged to do what we can with the abilitys we have and pursue a realistic goal with that. That leaves lesser room for great dissapointment, and I guess as you say greater humility and more modest expectations in terms of what life has to offer.
I think danes has become more spenders, and alot of folks have sure taken advantage of the good times that has been, and they are paying for it now. But there are still a great deal of the population that puts money in the bank, for 'when times aren't as good'.

I find this very interesting...
Perhaps that really is the reason so many American adults are so unhappy and why psychoactive drugs are in such high demand...

I wouldn't fint that unlikely at all.
However there is alot of that going around in Denmark aswell. And as you probably know we have a pretty high suicide/suicide attempt rate here too.
I guess for us, it's a combination of misserable weather and tha fact that if you feel like a faliure within a system that provides you with all the tools, it's easyer to come to the conclution that you actually are a faliure with no posibility for a deacent life, than it would be, if you could blame your social heritage or the system.

Both ways of thinking would be healthy for my fellow countrymen (including myself) to adopt. ![[usa]](/forums/themes/default/usa.gif)
