I'm guessing that if people are planning summer vacations, they will likely be close to home due to the economy. Gas is cheaper so a driving vacation is in the plans for my family.
I thought I would post a few attractions in Nebraska that other midwesterners might consider for their travel destination.
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo - Rated one of the top zoos in the country with an awesome walk-through aquarium and an air conditioned Desert Dome.
Strategic Air and Space Museum - 30 minutes from downtown Omaha on I-80. An impressive collection of military aircraft from WWII through present day, including experimental models. many interactive displays for adults and kids.
Mahoney State Park - Right next door to the museum, the park offers great views of the Platte River, golf, horseback riding, lodge and camping, fishing, paddle boats, a and a great water park.
The Testicle Festival - is held every year on Father's Day weekend. Turkey, pig, beef, and goat cahones deep fried for your dinning pleasure.
I would love to see what's special in YOUR area of the midwest. Feel free to start another thread to cover another region or your country.

| There are incredible bargains for O/S travel. From LA or SF or Vancouver it is only $907 return INCLUDING taxes from there to Downunder. Stopover in Hawaii or New Zealand. Can't beat it. But it may even get better when Delta starts flying over the Pacific.

i've already said it on a different post but if you are looking for a nice day during the weekend just to walk around and chill i'd suggest old market in omaha. it's got some nice bars too.
