Events held in several Dutch cities including The Hague, Assen and Maarssen saw big turnouts this weekend due to the warm, dry weather in most of the country.
The Parkpop Festival attracted 275,000 visitors to The Hague, about 25,000 more people than last year.. Europe’s largest free festival saw performances by The Pretenders, Miss Montreal, Ed Kowalczyk and Dutch singer Guus Meeuwis. Organisers said the high attendance was partly due to the weather..

The fifth annual veteran's day celebration also brought an additional 50,000 people to The Hague on Sunday. The Day of Architecture, held on Saturday and Sunday, drew 165,000 visitors to 40 towns and cities in the Netherlands.. This year's expositions followed the theme 'mobility..'

The summer-like weather on Sunday also helped picnickers in the central town of Maarssen break the national picnic record with 1359 people in attendance. Thousands of other tourists visited private gardens throughout the country, which were open to the public over the weekend.. In Leiden, the botanical garden extended its opening hours as an amorphophallus titanium or 'corpse flower' came into bloom. However, the weekend's events did not go off entirely without incident..

Near Amsterdam, a train hit an empty bus on its way to pick up visitors from the annual Awakenings music festival late Saturday night. No one was seriously hurt in the crash. Police in Assen reported that 50 motor racing fans were removed from a campsite for unruly behaviour during the Alice TT Assen races that held over the weekend. Rossi made his 100th race win & received a huge response from the fans.. All in all it was a good weekend all round..
