Well, first off, I don't work for SETI or any space agency, so forget about me using radio or other signals.  Also, since I don't know where they are, I wouldn't know what direction to aim any message.

My thoughts were what about when one is dreaming and your mind/soul is roaming the metaphysical world?

For example, I've had dreams where I've encountered God (in various forms), angels, and spirit guides and have woken up w/ new insights about myself, my life and others.

I've also had dreams where I talk to ETs (sometimes more than one species).  I always do my best to describe Earth and the solar system, attempting to convince them to come visit me.  Of course, since I don't know where they are, I can only hope that they have a huge database w/ planetary systems that they can refer to in order to locate Earth.

Of course, they may only just be dreams.  But I keep hoping that they're not.  I mention my other dreams b/c one time I discussed them with a psychic and she said that when I dream, I "travelled the Universe".  I thought that was really cool.

I would love for aliens from another planet to visit us.  Actually, I would want to hop on their space ship and leave with them.  I'm not alone.  I was telling one of my best friends yesterday about this desire and she said that if a UFO landed in her backyard, she would go with the aliens too.  What can I say, birds of a feather....

Yes, I admit, we both love Star Trek.

Now, if I could only control what I dream at night, I could put more of an effort into summoning aliens.  I figure the dream world is my best bet for contacting them.

Has anyone ever dreamed of ETs?

You have come to the right place for some good answers my friend. Forget SETI they have no idea what wavelength or spectrum to use to contact any alien. But you are indeed in luck. We have a resident alien here on the P.Com.
Of course you have to understand that before he decided to address any questions you have he will want to probe you first. I am talking some deep probes here, so I want you to understand that first off. So if you are of the shy variety do not be afraid he will be gentle, well at least the first time he probes you. And if you need a testimonial I am sure Radimavi will be happy to let you know how good he felt after our resident alien got done probing him.

Just leave a message for Sammy the Alien on the AA board.

Ah yes, Sam Houston.  His type of alien was in one of my dreams actually.    As a matter of fact, it didn't seem happy to see me and walked through a wall to get away from me.  So unfortunately, I didn't get to communicate with it to tell it to come visit me on Earth. :(

I hope Sammy will be friendlier.

Is RadiMavi Radical Maverick?  Where can I find a record of this probing session between Sammy and RadiMavi that you mention?  What thread on what page?  I noticed you started a thread about Don't Mess with Sammie the Alien.

PS - none of the aliens in my dreams required probes! :P

Maybe that is particular to Sammy's type of alien. :P

The only viable way thus far is to build huge satellite antaneas that can listen in on the hustle and bustle of outer space.

SETI is in the process of completing the Alan Telescope Array in Hat Creek, CA, which will expand our listening range from the current meager 1000 stars, to a whopping 1 million neighboring stars... still, only a fraction of the Milky Way, but nonetheless a huge step for any hope of contacting ET.

Seth Shostak of SETI predicts that judging by Moore's Law and the ever-expanding capacity and listening-range of our satellite-technology, we have a fairly decent chance of getting the first confirmation of an ET Civilization by 2025.

But it may take hundreds of years... we just don't know what the density of intelligent civilizations is in the Galaxy... but most likely, they still haven't found us, and we have yet to find or hear of them...

To be quite frank, IF they exist and IF they are interested in this back-woods spiral of our galaxy, perhaps if the human race began ACTING intelligent...

I don't see why us being primitive would prevent them from coming.  After all, modern day anthropologists still study/make contact with primitive people here on Earth no matter how remote/back-woods their location.

Maybe they are fascinated by our violent and chaotic ways! [gun]

Think of that South Park episode where aliens are broadcasting events on Earth as a reality-TV show.

And what happens to the people contacted?

Culture shock and the complete erosion, and sometimes compelte death, of their Old Ways.

Yes, but at least they know that they are not alone.

Besides - you seem to be complaining about the "Old Ways" not being intelligent.  I think First Contact would be great for human civilization!

Um, how did you arrive at that conclusion?

Besides, who says the "New Ways" are any better for an indeginous people.

Its hard to compare cultures as being better or worse, but technologically - they will definitely be better off.  Think of the Yanomamu tribe in the Amazon who are now interested in flashlights, lighters, and walkie-talkies.

Contact b/w more and less advanced civilizations has been happening since time started.  There's no way to prevent it.  Even today when we are supposed to be more "sensitive" to indiginous people, we still stumble upon primitive tribes in remote parts of the world.  The last one I heard about was also in South America and the people were shaking spears at the helicopter that was taking their pictures.

Either we run into them or they run into us eventually.  I figure we might as well get it over with.

To quote one of my favorite authors: All civilizations change or die (Marion Zimmer Bradley).

If aliens came to Earth, I see the biggest change as being with religious thought.  I think it would be great for humans to know there are other intelligent (and more advanced) beings in the universe.  Sure, it would be traumatic for the fundie-zealots - but I don't have much sympathy for them to begin with.  They'll adjust eventually - and I think the planet would be much better without them.

And the stuff we could learn from aliens would be spectacular!

And for how many millenia did that tribe get along quite well without those modern "conviniences"? And what do they now do with their trash that this technology generates?

While it is certainly difficult not to run into primitive tribes on a planet, it is quite easy to avoid contact in the Universe.

If there are other life forms, I could easily imagine they are waiting for us to gain common space travel before contacting us.

I'm sure the same could be said about any aboriginal culture that didn't have explorers contact them.  But once the contamination has occurred, there's no going back.  I would hope that the more advanced culture would help with the trash problem if they are going to be giving away advanced technology.  It is their fault after all, that these people are now asking for them.  However, I would bet that they are happy with advances in medical care that they learned from modern day people.

Well, I don't want to wait to play catch up with other advanced civilizations.  Reminds me of that Star Trek Next Generation episode where a new planet has reached warp technology so they visit them according to First Contact protocol to let them know about the Federation...etc.   Ultimately, the leader of the planet (who meets with the First Contact team) decides that his planet isn't ready to become part of a larger community and puts the technology on hold.  But the scientist who developed it wasn't happy, so she decides to leave the planet with the Enterprise crew.

Why should those of us who are ready for First Contact have to wait until people (esp. politicians who control science funding) think developing space travel technology is worthwhile?  I think anybody who is eager and willing to interact with aliens should be allowed the opportunity (at this point, to be provided by the aliens themselves).

Sadly, I suspect the same as you.  But then we can hope (?) for UFO crashes on Earth.  Maybe even a highly populated area where the media can be present to document the event.

And then there are all those stories of people who claim to have been already been visited by aliens.  Why shouldn't aliens be curious about a primitive culture like Earth?  They might be like today's biologists and want to do research with tagging of individuals, collecting samples and data from people, and even engaging in conversations with us.  They do seem to pick only people in isolated areas though unfortunately.  So they don't seem to want to impact our civilization too much if they are doing research on us.

Me - I wish they'd fly their spaceship over the White House.  That would be awesome!

First Contact Protocol, thanks, I couldn't think of what that was called.

And I think it is quite logical as well.

Hands off until te species/culture developes on it's own.
