The University of Leiden’s Centre for Terrorism and Counterterrorism is opening a databank this week full of data about national and international terrorism. The databank is accessible on application for a password. The Centre for Terrorism and Counterterrorism has been working on the research database in the area of terrorism, radicalisation and polarisation since 2007. All data from research projects underway and going back for five years is included in the database.

“Thanks to expanded search criteria, people can easily find relevant projects,” said a spokesman yesterday. “A reasoned request to receive access to the database can be sent to infodatabase@campusdenhaag.nl”. Account-holders also receive a quarterly newsletter. The databank contains hundreds of research projects, as well as documents of terrorists and their aims. Although the emphasis is on Dutch academic research, the Centre will in the course of this year include more data from research projects underway abroad in the database.

The databank was set up under the leadership of professor Bob de Graaff. The university is holding a symposium at end-November on the building, use and management of the databank.
