It's so bad when republicans and democrats, liberals and conservatives, Americans and just sober people from all over the World argue about Russia policy and actions. Or blame Russia for something. I think it would be fair to bring the real decision-maker of Russian policy to the scene, to show him to the public. To stop argument. Let me be a peacemaker.

Please notice the article is dated 03.11.06, and is referring to the Kommersant, one of 2 most respected business newspapers of Russia.

http://www.lenta.ru/news/2006/11/03/voloshin/

my translation (just most interesting pieces, approximate translation) -

Chairman of Russian energy company RAO EES (=general electric, former head of administration of Putin) Alexander Voloshin has visited the USA. He met with top officials of the White house and CIA to discuss with them possible successor of the Russian president, Kommersant writes.

Ex-head of presidential administration himself said that he came due to invitation of Carnegie center, which has no connection to Kremlin and is not lobbying any successor of Putin.

Though unnamed experts say that he might be lobbying interests of Dmitri Medvedev, which is supported by a group headed by Anatoly Chubais (my remark: another CIA appointee, then head of councel of directors of RAO EES ).

As paper says, despite that Voloshin denies political reasons of his visit, he presented his point of view on the problem of succeeding at the close dinner at Carnegie center.

Correspondent of the Kommersant managed to see via open window of the ground floor, where dinner was going on for 3 hours, former US ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine Jim Collins and Stieve Paifer, as well as senior CIA officer, responcible for Russia in the national intelligence councel Fiona Hill.

....
It's enough, you may use internet translation if you wish to translate the rest, it's not so important.

Just a notice, Medvedev was named once as a possible candidate in the very beginning of the period when public talks and Putin's search for a successor started. Then there were several candidates, among them those who were newly appointed higher than Medvedev, Among them Ivanov, Zubkov, there were rumors and signs of Putin about several others. But just before presidential campaign Medvedev suddenly jumped out to the light. When I first read the article I translate now I understood who will be Russian president. Then started to hesitate (Medvedev disappeared from public), but finally events proved I was right. I'm always right, by the way. I knew Georgia was to invade South Ossetia, I knew several years ago the World economic crisis is coming, I know the US is to fall soon.

No, your fall will be quite soectacular. I would be surprised if it happens without major military conflicts....
But still, unfortunately it doesn't mean we Russians are not paying tribute to our masters... Just look at current G20 ministers of finance meeting. I was at my dacha today and was not able to read thoroughly what decisions they have came to, just heard they decided to raise some taxes. It's good, the reason I'm so glad you're sinking now is that you're going to experience everything you had imposed on us - high taxes for example. Our industry was heavilly suppressed by your puppets as Putin, Medveded or finance minister Kudrin. All games about Iran, missiles etc. are just a false subject to divert attention of the public. They change nothing, but economic policy defines a county's place in the World.  In economy (which does only matter) we've been slaves to the USA paying tribute and being unable to define our own economic policy.

You'r right about the economy part that will be our downfall. I seriously don't think

that we are rigging your economy. I mean really, does it look like we can handle our

own? We can't rebuild Neworleans much less manipulate Moscow. As far as war,

expect American combat power to actually grow even as America rots from within.

Also Americans are good at winning wars and losing peaces. I doubt your leaders are

chosen, or run, from Washington unless of course you think that America wanted the

natural gas shut off to europe, and war with Georgia. As far as taxes in both our

countrys go remember the old American saying: the only certanty is death and

taxes. I wish my country all the best but we never wanted to be world police, and

it's time for other nations to share the burden.
