Funny how you label anyone who doesn't agree with you. I am no Liberal bud! Harper is just plain evil and thassafact! He'll do anything to get power. Anything. Then, if he ever gets it...look out!

Start with being honest with yourself. Harper has only a fraction of the power he would have if he (shudder) ever got a majority government. THAT is what he is starving for. look at his history. Petty, childish, self-centred, selfish and a fundamentalist xian.
If that doesn't scare the hell out of you, perhaps you are the same sort of person.

As for I ..... I do have the power and the insight of Harper knowledge! And he should stay the course, no matter what a human says....
Some humans like you say are very "Petty, childish, self-centred, selfish and a fundamentalist xian.
And some humans should go back to the country they came from, if they don't like the way the government is run in Canada.

So you're saying that if Canadians don't like something about their government they should leave the country? You are from another planet, aren't you? One where the word "democracy" has never been invented.

Interesting aside...today the Olympic flame was lit in Greece, where democracy was born. It was lit for an organization, the IOC-which does everything it can to deny citizens of cities afflicted with an Olympic, their democratic rights to free speech, among others.
But Sam would likely be OK with that, Harper certainly is.![[eyeroll]](/forums/themes/default/sarcasm.gif)

Oh Sam, Tsk, tsk. I spent 20 years entirely too close to the political system of this country and know it well enough...much better that you I am thinking. Further, I am likely old enough to be your father, but I deny such paternity and to be honest if the DNA came back in the affirmative, I would kill myself.

Harper is a very immature and insecure individual. He simply cannot handle criticism as he has demonstrated throughout his career. If one looks back at his involvement with that right-wing xian"Think-tank" (though how one can use "think" and "religion" in the same sentence one wonders), as well as how he deported himself with the Reform party under Preston Manning. I mean, we are talking spoiled 4 year old.
So sensitive is the poor, inadequate chap, he will do anything to avoid hearing anything the slightest bit critical;

the funny thing is, even though i voted for Obama, and dont associate myself as a conservative (or a "left-winger" for that matter), I think Harper is far more honest than any of the other contending political party leaders in your country.
Yes, he's conservative, but he is also saavy and cool the way he approaches public policy and people in general.
If I were a Canadian, I'd proabably side somewhere between Liberals and Conservatives, and vote for Harper over Dion or Ignatieff any day of the week, unless the Liberal Party could garner better candidates....

Yes, he's conservative, but he is also saavy and cool the way he approaches public policy and people in general.
There probably never has been a Canadian PM who was any less a "people person" than Harper. He isn't liked even within his own party. He believes in autonomous "top down" power and openly shows his dislike of anyone who doesn't agree with him or his policies. He has never attempted to hide his resentment of all things liberal. He nearly toppled his own government to try to teach a bizarre lesson to other parties on whom he depends to stay in power. He is cold, angry fish and knows it which is why recently he has tried to follow the advice of his handlers and appear at least half way human. Most of us are not fooled.
If I were a Canadian, I'd proabably side somewhere between Liberals and Conservatives, and vote for Harper over Dion or Ignatieff any day of the week, unless the Liberal Party could garner better candidates....
Stephen Harper emulates far right American pols like Ronald Reagan who is his political idol. He has tried to be a Canadian version of the American neo con politicians like George Bush and his embarrasing attempts at being a lapdog for people like Dubya made me ashamed to be a Canadian. Harper has done nothing during his time in office except run up the biggest deficit in twenty years and abandon Canadians stranded in other countries who learend that despite their citizenship they could not rely on their government to help them. Harper is a mean spirited two faced power freak who can barely keep his born again Christian attitudes under wraps. The incompetent moralizer will cling to power until he wins a majority government and if he doesn't he will hate Canadians even more than he does now.

![[can]](/forums/themes/default/canada.gif) ![[usa]](/forums/themes/default/usa.gif) Savvy? Cool? We talking about Steve Harper Prime Minister of Canada? You clearly don't know the man at all. He is anything but cool and the only savvy he has is focused entirely upon himself.
Here are a few quotes by or about the man which may give you some better insight into hium. Of course Mazel, he may be exactly your sort of fellow, but he is not our sort of fellow. That is why, despite the ridiculous NDP and the in-bred Liberals incompetents, Harper has not been able to earn the trust of the Canadian people and get a majority. We remember all to well that he is a right-wing xian nutbar and we arr scared to death of what he will do to civil rights for women and homosexuals if he ever gets a majority. Already, he has quietly appointed people to sensitive positions in some ministries who think as he does and believe ridiculous things like the earth is 6000 years old.
No thanks.

If the Liberals' law is passed, will sex education in the schools, including elementary grades, include the same portrayals of sexual activity which presently exist in heterosexual instruction? Will there be the same presentation of homosexual activity? Of course there will.
Stockwell Day
What's the Prob Stock? I though you xians were supposed to "Love thy neighbour"?
Marriage commissioners who choose not to marry homosexuals are being fired. A Knights of Columbus chapter in British Columbia is in court because it chooses not allow a lesbian group to use its facility for marriage ceremonies. The list goes on.
Stockwell Day
He's really got a hate on for gays, hasn't he?
"Stockwell Day is a very religious Christian. Before running in politics, he ran a Christian day school in Red Deer Alberta. He believes in the death penalty but is against a woman's right to abortion. He even believes that Adam and Eve actually existed.
From 1986 to 2000 he was Progressive Conservative for Alberta, during which time he was sued by a lawyer for making libelous comments linking the lawyer to a sex criminal. The settlement plus court costs totalled $792,000 Canadian, which the Albertan government paid for him and Day himself only paid $60,000. Stockwell Day has a history of not knowing when to keep his mouth shut.
In 2000 the old Reform Party and the Progressive Conservative Party tried to form an alliance and run as a single party. Not all the Progressive Conservatives agreed, so the Canadian Alliance Party was not even properly named. Stockwell Day quit provincial politics and decided to join the Alliance . Day also decided to run for party leader, and during the leadership campaign against Preston Manning and Tom Long (an Ontario Tory), Stockwell Day ended up winning.
During the 2000 election campaign Day made the following comments and voiced the following beliefs: He showed up at a press conference on a Jet Ski wearing a wetsuit and said that politicians should spend less time in Ottawa and more time on vacation. At a technology firm in Ontario, he complained about "brain drain" to the United States, but meanwhile the owner of the firm was actually FROM the United States. In Niagara Falls, he complained that Canadian jobs were flowing south just like the Niagara River (the Niagara River flows north, not south). At Conestoga College in Ontario he was doused with chocolate milk by a student, after which he complained that "I should have been wearing the wet suit." During the campaign, some of his old religious/anti-abortion beliefs came out including "Women who become pregnant through rape or incest should not qualify for government funded abortions unless their pregnancy is life threatening." He also proposed "direct democracy", which stated that any petition with only 3% of voters signatures should be used to trigger a referendum on the subject. After which there was petition circulated that wanted Stockwell Day to change his name to "Doris Day". The petition got over 1 million voters to sign it (which is way over 3%). Day espoused his belief that evolution doesn't exist and that people do really come from Adam and Eve. Day believed that an "Asian Invasion" was taking place at Canadian universities and that we shouldn't allow asians to study in Canada. He made a variety of other quotes displaying his anti-immigration beliefs, anti-native rights, anti-women's rights and anti-Quebec"
..and this guy is a minister in Harper's cabinet! He is also on record as saying he believes the earth is 6000 years old.
Now Mazel, perhaps you are getting an inkling why Harper can't get a majority and why Canadians on the whole don't trust the man a bit.
