they are having a special season and have a real shot at the Mythical National Championship this year.
LSU beats Alabama, but loses to Mississippi or Arkansas.
Alabama beats Florida.
texas lose tonight, against A & M or in the Big 12 Championship.
Iowa runs the table & gets to play either Boise State or Cincinnati & in the Mythical National Championship game.
It isn't all that far fetched...

It's amazing what a team so depleted by injuries has been able to do against quality opponents.
Contrary to popular belief, going 9-0 in the Big-10 isn't that easy a thing to do....

They have 2 monster games left where they will be underdogs - OH State & MN
Even if they win both, they need TX to lose OR FL & AL to both lose
But they REALLY need all 3 to lose so they can get an easy game against Boise, TCU or Cincy...
My guess is that IA winds up getting beat by OR in the Rose Bowl
Hawkeyes need to be pulling hard for Joe Pa to beat the Buckeyes. If that happens, a Rose Bowl trip is damn near a sure thing.

Conference rules vary for determining the winner of a tie, so if Iowa loses to Ohio St and Penn St beats the Buckeyes, I don't know exactly what happens.
They aren't underdogs when facing MN though.
If TX loses and Iowa goes undefeated (and Florida and Alabama are undefeated going into the SEC Championship), Iowa goes to the National Championship against the winner of the SEC championship. The only thing that would preclude them at that point would be the human factor: Coaches and Harris poll.
Of TCU, BSU, and Cincy, only Cincy is a legitimate contender.....
Provided Iowa doesn't lose its 3rd Running Back and umpteenth front seven defenseman this season...

I'm a Virginia Tech alum, so when my team chokes its way OUT of contention every year, I find myself supporting the underdog.

I am enjoying the hell out of this Hawkeye season! My beloved Huskers are choking AGAIN this year so I am regressing to my childhood in Iowa and following the Hawks much closer...I'm having flashbacks to the good ole' days with Hayden Fry
...and kudos to Iowa state for beating Nebraska at home last week.

If they make it, you should go.......Pasadena is gorgeous at New Years.
I know, I lived there for many years. It never rains for the Rose Bowl or parade.

They didn't choke.
It's only choking if no one is injured and you're an elite team.

No, they choked.
I mean, you are supposed to beat Northwestern...
BUT, the Rose Bowl dream is not dead yet!
Beat the Buckeyes...

How could they possibly have choked?
They are using a 3rd string RB from out of South Dakota. They've lost something along the lines of 10 starters (can't find the exact number) to injuries.
And Stanzi gets hurt.
Stanzi was the man that led this horribly depleted team to 9-0.
So no, they didn't choke. They just, finally, had the absolutely wrong man get injured.
Ferentz has done a helluva job at Iowa and if they beat Ohio State next week, they win the conference.

IF>>>big IF...OSU wins 92% of home games. OSU wins they at least share conference title again. Ferentz has done a good job...but this is beyond his capability.....
Vegas makers (open) have it at 13..but it is going up...largest spread is 16.5...Iowa has little chance to win this game....looks like a second tier bowl again....
