How much alcohol can you really handle without getting completely "wasted"?

Depends on the 'poison'.  If it's spumante, that stuff's like juice...I've yet to feel any effects from drinking a lot of it.  Wine, perhaps 2 1/2 glasses to feel the effects (heh, at one point in my life, it took an entire bottle...).   Two bottles of beer can topple me.

Of course, I don't drink very often; when drinking regularly, it took more to get a 'buzz'.

Depends on the alcohol percentage. 40% alcohol will usually get me wasted after 10 shots. But how fast you get wasted depends on your emotion at the beginning of the party lol. If you were mad or didn't like someone you get wasted faster. Learned that in health class lol. I am a whiskey lover lol. My favorite drinks are JD, Moon Shine, Captain Morgan, Southern Comfort, grain alcohol, and this homemade 100% alcohol that my friend makes. I'm one of the lucky ones lol, I don't get hangovers, infact I feel better then normal in the morning. But I can't stand beer, it gives me a huge headache, I don't know why. So I just stick to liquor[drink]

if you have a habit of drinking more than 2 drinks a day then you are in trouble.  you are becoming alcoholic.

Not true at all.

For me, 2 beers a day for the rest of my life would just give me a large gut. It wouldn't make me an alcoholic and it wouldn't make many people an alcoholic.

Being dependent on alcohol and basically being permanently drunk define alcoholism. 2 beers spaced out during the day will make very few people "drunk".

Agreed.  Blanket statements about alcohol are never true for everybody.  There are plenty of people who drink several drinks a day who are not alcoholics.

al·co·hol·ism    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (lk-hô-lzm, -h-)
n.

A disorder characterized by the excessive consumption of and dependence on alcoholic beverages, leading to physical and psychological harm and impaired social and vocational functioning.
The factors that change someone from a heavy drinker to a alcoholic are dependence, and behaviors that lead to harm or prevent you from functioning socially.

It's all relative.  My mother would tell you that if someone drinks 1 beer a month, that's too much. There are European cultures that routinely drink a bottle of wine with dinner everyday.  It's all in how you handle it.

you people sound like you are in denial.

I said MORE than 2 drinks a day.

I think you need to ponder why someone would drink more than this.

I think what you are getting at is a valid point.  There are some days that it's not convenient to drink, and for me, at least, there are days where I'm just not in the mood.

So although I never drink 3 or more drinks 7 nights a week, I think there are peole who do who certainly are not alcoholics.

My point is that you have to look at the side effects of the drinking, and not define alcoholism by an arbitrary acceptable number of drinks per day.

I understand.  But the effects of alcohol are there, even if one can tolerate it for a long time.  It changes you.  It keeps one immature, like other drugs.  Unable to advance on the spiritual plane.

Interesting article outlining the benefit and risk of alcoholic consumption for a variety of conditions, ages and sexes.

You hear a lot of stuff about it but this short article does a good job putting some perspective around what you have read and heard before....(mostly likely in unexplained 30 sec. newsbites)

That is tragic. It is too bad that our society values overconsumption of EVERYTHING, including alcohol.

You people who drink more than 2 drinks a day are in trouble.  I mean every day drinking at least 2 drinks.  Trust me on this.  You are becoming addicted to the buzz aren't you?

Otherwise why would you want to get screwed up every day?  Face the facts or be a coward.
