HI! My husband and I are considering a move to St T. Fall of 2006 , I realize that is a long way off, but I am looking for some info on the move. We had planed to do this sometime ago when it was just the two of us. Now with a baby on the way...... I guess it is a little scary. We still want to make the move however. I need some info on housing jobs.....you name it. And if any of you have made a move like this with a baby in tow....please give some pointers. He thinks we should wait a year or two after she is born, I think if we don't do it now we never will. Thanks and I hope to get a response soon. Oh one thing I forgot . Day Care! Any pointers?

I am considering moving to St. Thomas in the fall as well, however I am going by myself, no family or baby in tow, but it still seems like a scary move, I am interested in hearing if you find out any information.

Hey there! I dont have any info other than what you've prob. already researched on the internet but I am also considering moving to the VI. I'd like to be down there in the next 60 - 90 days. Where are you moving from? I'm coming from Frederick, MD and just want some adventure in my life. I'm 27 male and in the financial services business and tired of the daily grind. Check out usvimovingcenter.com if you havent already found it.

Hi there,
I did find usvimovingcenter website, that was pretty helpful, I'm still having a difficult time fining rentals that aren't vacation rentals and ridiculously priced! I would be moving from Cape Cod, Mass, so it's quite a big and scary move, I haven't decided yet, as details about the job aren't final yet. I'm looking for a new adventure as well, I like my job here, but I think it may be time for something new. If you have any luck on finding rentals please let me know.
Good luck.

The first thing that comes to mind when you say, DAY CARE" is NO, do not do it. I do not have any kids here, but knowing the island, I would not trust any day care here and that is if it is available. In addition, the cost of living is very high here and I can only imagine the costs associated with having a child in day care. Also, the public schools here go back and forth into acreditation and are in horrible condition. Your only other choice for school age children here is private schools that will cost you an arm and a leg on tution. You DEFINITELY do not want to be here with school aged children. As for housing, there are 2 publications herewith classified ads. One is a daily newspaper (except Sunday) called The DAILY NEWS that costs $1.00. The other is a weekly paper that is called ISLAND TRADER and is issued on Thursday at no cost. Due to the ISLAND TRADER being free, I think there are more ads in it. Unfortunately, the majority of owners that have places for rent do not advertise in these publications. They stick a sign outside on the road. This is the best way to find a place by driving around the island, but you would have to stay in a hotel awaiting a choice. It does kill 2 birds with 1 stone tho. You also get to familiarize yourself with the island and also get the knack for driving on the LEFT. Yes, that is correct. All driving is on the left side of the road. Speaking of driving, you MUST obtain a VI driver's license within 30 days upon your arrival or you will receive a ticket each time caught. As for a vehicle, you are better off shipping one down that you are familiar with and when it arrives, you have to insure it here and get VI plates before you can use it. Shopping is a chore also. Grocery shopping usually consists of going to at least 3-5 stores to obtain your shopping list. We have 2 K-Marts, 1 Home Depot, 1 Office Depot, 3 MacDonald's, 2 KFC's, 1 Papa John's, 1 Pizza Hut and 3 Wendy's.
