You could either try the Sheraton Falls or the Marriott both are directly across the way so I've heard. Sheraton is 300 yrds and the Mariott is 100 yrds

I grew up in Niagara Falls and there are several down near the Falls, however price wise ones further up on Lundy's lane are still quite close and much cheaper. The Marriot or Sheraton if you're not concerned with price is the best though.

None of the hotels are that close (100 or 300yds!!) I think they are counting the distance to the park surrounding the falls, plus they are at the top of large hills so if you have problems with walking, you will still have to drive down to the falls.  Be careful, there are some hotels with fancy names which are actually dumps. Avoid anything with the name Waldorf in it unless you like crack adicts. if you get the name of a hotel and want me to tell you if it's good or not pm me and I'll be more then happy to tell you the real story on it. I always hated seeing tourists get ripped off.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn when my house burned down, they have one on the Boulevard ,the road that runs from Fort Erie to Niagara on the lake. That one you would still have to drive to the Falls or take the "People Mover" (bus) but you get a good view of the gorge and they have one on Victoria Avenue which is actually the closest in walking distance you will get to the Falls because of the way the roads are set up. (seriousy ignore the distances unless you can fly like a bird) They are both decent hotels at decent prices.

http://www.xxxxxxxxxxxxx  all the hotels on this website are good. I hope this helps a bit!

Oh Cilo where were you when I needed you like 2 weeks ago. I booked my flight and hotel already. I wish I would have found this fourm earlier. I booked at the Sheraton cause that's the only one I really knew anything about.  Is there any tidbits that I as a first timer should be aware of.  I see the Mist voyage thingy alot and then there's cave of the winds....r these worth it?  Also, we won't have a car. Is the casino in walking distance? and also i read somewhere there was a shopping outlet? is that in walking distance?  any advice helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.  thnx

It depends on how well you can walk, it's quite hilly. The bus system is great and I am pretty sure the Sheraton has it's own shuttle too. there's about a million and one taxis too and also the "People Mover" which can take you around up and down the river and all the Niagara Parks major attractions. The Maid of the Mist and the Wind walks are great but they are seasonal dont' open till May weather permitting. Those two are actually my favourites, but the wind walks is on the American side so you will have to cross the border.  The horticultural gardens and greenhouse are beautiful. If you do like to walk you can go down into the gorge there's lot of trails down there and you get a great view of the river close up (Do not go in the river, I know it seems silly to say it but you would be surprised by how many people get tempted)

The casino is right near the falls, you can walk there, there's also around the same area, The hard Rock Cafe and all sorts of restaurants, shopping, and silly things like tacky museums and all that (which can be fun if you're in that kind of silly fun mood). Do yourself a favour though and exchange money at either a bank there are several around or at the Casino which gives bank rates or you'll be ripped off and use Canadian money as opposed to buying with American money as most stores give a lousy rate of exchange. All the tourist souverniers, you see down near the Falls will be much more expensive then say if you take a bus to the mall or walk up Lundy's Lane. Same goes with restaurants and all that. The casino is nice I won almost $2000 on a nickel machine the last time I was there so Good Luck!

If you're American don't forget to bring two forms of picture Id or a passport, if you dont' have a passport bring your birth certificate or proof of citizenship or residency or the American Customs authorities may give you a hard time when you go home.

I hope you have a good time!

We will be traveling with our 3 year old daughter the end of April to attend a family burial service, and we are thinking of stopping in Niagara Falls on the way to make the trip easier on our daughter.  It has been about 15 years since my husband and I honeymooned there, and I know a lot has changed.  I do not want to be ripped off during this vulnerable time.  We were thinking a nice, quiet, reasonably priced room overlooking the falls would be nice.  I've been searching the popular travel planning websites, and I am overwhelmed with information.

If anyone has time to answer the following questions, I would very much appreciate it.

I found a fallside room at the Oakes Hotel that was reasonably priced but it was for floors 2 through 8.  Is this a reputable hotel and would my daughter be able to enjoy the night light show from the room at this level?  I stayed here in one of the motel rooms when I was very young, and I remember the observation tower was nice, but it was pretty busy.  The hotel seemed very nice then, but I was a kid, so what did I really know.  Besides, a lot can happen in....many years (we don't need to go into how many ;))

I was wondering why many hotels charge a considerable amount ($8-$15) for parking when you are their guest?

I saw a couple Days Inns that are reasonably priced, but I'm not sure if you could see the falls from there.  There was one on Centre St. and one on Victoria.  They had free parking and a continental breakfast.  Of course, I've seen some continental breakfasts that you would really want to pass up and others that were amazing at different hotels nationwide.

Michael's Inn was very reasonably priced with a pool and offers falls side rooms.  However, it just seems that it might be too good to be true.  I also have a suspicion that the falls might be considerably far away where we might need binoculars to see it.  :)  I could be wrong, but I saw a small thumbnail picture that made me wonder.

Thank you for your time in reading my rather lengthy post.  Any advice you can offer would be so much appreciated.

Michael's Inn is down near the Rainbow Bridge ( not a very good view from any room).  Unfortunately, If you want a room with a good view, they are pricey!  Check out  Sheraton, Hilton, or Embassy if you want a great view form the room, but plan on spending upwards of 250 Cad per night.

The Oakes is fine and probably the closest one to the Falls besides the more expensive Embassy Suites.  Have a good time
